Algoma University relaunches summer music program
Algoma University is offering a summer program designed to give aspiring musicians a head start on a career in music.
The university is accepting applications for its Great Lakes International Summer Music Institute (GLISMI), which will offer instruction in jazz and singer-songwriter studies.

The course has run once before in 2019 but was forced to take a break during the pandemic.
It's designed for advanced musicians and is specifically aimed at students from Grade 11 to college and university levels.
Hannah Lindsay, the executive director, describes the course as an intensive two-week program.
"Students are going to be here on campus for a full two weeks, morning to night, where they're provided with instruction from professional musicians, local and guest faculty as well that we're bringing in," Lindsay said.
Students can earn post-secondary credits that can be applied to Algoma's music program or others, she said.
Students will learn music history, theory, style, improvisation and the business side of music.
