Two people in Timmins have been charged with impaired driving thanks to complaints from the public.

In the first case, police received a call around 10:51 a.m. on Aug. 13 about an erratic driver heading into the city on Highway 101 West.

"Police intercepted the vehicle on Riverside Drive at Norman Street," Timmins police said in a news release Tuesday.

"Upon further investigation, police arrested the female driver for operation while impaired and (she) was transported to the Timmins police station (for) a drug evaluation."

The female driver from Matheson was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and was released on an undertaking.

Then on Aug. 14 at 11:15 p.m., another tipster alerted police about a man driving away from a local bar after having several drinks.

"Police located the vehicle and driver at which point officers formed reasonable grounds to believe that the male driver was impaired by alcohol," police said.

He failed a breath test and the Timmins man was then charged with drunk driving. He was later released from custody on an undertaking.
