Roger Turgeon has lived in the Minnow Lake area for over 40 years.

He often goes down to a snowmobile trail near Moonlight Beach.

These days he does not like what he sees.

"Every time I come through here there's always a little bit of garbage," said Turgeon.

"Now, it's getting out of hand. People dropping off carpets, I've got a boat cut in twelve different pieces. When does it stop? Who puts an end to it?"

The city said the best thing to do when you come across garbage - in any location - is to call 311.

"If the illegal dumping is on the city property then the city will definitely investigate and look after it," said Renee Brownlee, the city's supervisor of collection and recycling.

"If its on private property, it would then become a matter the by-law department would handle with the property owner."

Most municipalities struggle with illegal garbage dumping in some way and Brownlee can't figure out why.

"Greater Sudbury does have one of the most generous and comprehensive waste collection and waste disposal programs in Ontario, so this kind of thing shouldn't be happening," she said.

"But it does."

In this case, Turgeon said the worst part about it all, is how close the landfill is to where the garbage is being dumped.

"Two minutes right up the street," he said.

"All of this is just wrong."

The upcoming Residential Tipping Fee holiday even allows people the chance to dispose of as much garbage as they want for free during the week of September 25 to 30.
