A Webbwood woman has been fined and hit with a hunting suspension after accidentally shooting her hunting partner.

Joanne Scarrow has pleaded guilty to discharging her firearm without due care, attention or consideration for persons or property.

Scarrow has been fined $2,000 and she received a two-year hunting suspension. She also must complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course, before being able to purchase another hunting licence. Her firearm has been permanently forfeited to the Crown.

In a media release issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry said it received a report that a man had been shot while small game hunting north of Cartier, back on October 9, 2016.

Conservation officers and members of the OPP attended the scene and conducted a joint investigation.

“It was determined that Scarrow, a passenger in a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle, noticed a grouse and loaded her shotgun within the vehicle,” reads a statement from the MNRF.

“While attempting to exit the vehicle, the firearm went off and shot the driver in the leg below the knee. The driver’s injuries required treatment in the hospital.”
