Tourism officials say a recent episode of a national television series filmed in Sault Ste. Marie delivered major advertising coverage of the city.

In a media release issued on Tuesday, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie said more than 1.5 million viewers watched the Sault Ste. Marie episode of The Amazing Race Canada that aired on September 5.

Based on figures provided by the province, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie said the total viewership for the episode represents more than $1.18 million of ad coverage for the city in Ontario. The group expects the actual total is much higher, since the episode aired nationally.

“Generating and hosting these types of opportunities with travel media and television shows is one of the ways our team markets the community’s attractions, scenery and visitor-friendly attributes,” said Ian McMillan, Tourism Sault Ste. Marie executive director.

“In the case of The Amazing Race Canada episode, I thank our partners with the Ontario Tourism Marketing Corporation and Tourism Northern Ontario for their support in making it possible.”
