The annual Timmins and District Hospital Fundraising Gala received a special diamond delivery on Monday, as two top prizes were delivered by De Beers Canada.

Three diamonds, valued at more than $16,000, were donated by the De Beers’ Victor Mine.

The company has been supporting the hospital's fundraising efforts for over a decade; to the tune of $90,000.

This year, funds raised by the spring gala will go to expanding the ophthalmic surgery department. The hospital hopes to bring in $200,000.

“We do look forward to supporting the Timmins and District Hospital for this,” said James Kirby, De Beers’ Victor Mine manager

“It goes a long way with the initiatives of the equipment that is purchased year after year and the amount of money that's been raised is phenomenal, so it's a great initiative to be a part of.”

The diamonds took nine months to cut, and were sourced in northern Ontario.

The spring gala is scheduled for May 6th.
