The videos are disturbing.

In one, it shows an 18-year-old woman smearing dog feces in an American bulldog's face.

Elsewhere in the video the same woman is seen screaming at the same dog, Chico, for eating cat food then punching the dog repeatedly.

People online were quick to react, with comments pouring in on social media.

The 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were both charged with animal cruelty.

"I knew immediately there was something off," said Steven Lashbrook.

Lashbrook was the last person to have Chico before the dog was handed over to authorities.

He said the owner dropped the dog off Wednesday morning.

From time-to-time, Lashbrook and his girlfriend Venessa Armstrong babysit Chico.

They used to be neighbours with the accused, and once they saw the video online they immediately called police.

"There was no other question in my mind that had to be put into safety and uh given a proper home," said Lashbrook.

"We were disgusted and I was completely broken hearted about it because I love the dog," added Venessa Armstrong, a former neighbour.

"We are looking for a stiff sentence," said Pessot, Pet Save executive director.

"We want a message sent that this is enough and with everyone watching we will be there for that dog and be part of his voice"

Chico, another dog and three kittens were treated by a veterinarian and CTV has been told they are currently in a safe place.

The two accused will appear in court on July 19 in Sudbury.
