Cambrian College in Sudbury is getting over $2 million in new funding from Ottawa for applied research work.
The money comes from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and it is designed to benefit the college's research division called Cambrian Innovates, as well as several area mining firms.
The research will focus on issues faced by the mining industry; such as environmental remediation, protection and conservation
“One of our goals was to be nationally recognized for applied research,” said Bill Best, Cambrian College president.
“It’s a statement to everybody involved in research saying that Cambrian is a major player. That will attract more investment, more interest and more partners.”
The $2.1 million in funding will be administered by a mine environmental and stewardship committee.
