Young wolf pups add delight to the Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa experience
Love was in the air this spring at Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa. Two of the wolves: ‘Smoke’ and ‘Raven’ – notably the only two able to procreate – paired up and brought four pups into the world on May 2.

It came as a surprise to Richard Lafleur, the resort’s owner.
“They told us because of all the transition and you know they're very temperamental so they might not get anything this year,” he said.
“We had a litter of two black ones and two greys: two males and two females; we see them every three or four days.”
Lafleur told CTV News that it is wonderful to have them, but there’s no plan to grow the pack which now stands at 15.

“I knew they were smart, but I didn't think they were that smart and you can't do the same thing twice because they've already figured you out; there's no such thing as a pattern with them,” said Lafleur.
He added that this explains why it’s not easy for just anyone to capture photos of the pups.

Local photographer Mark Clement has had the privilege of witnessing some special moments with the new family.
“The people that we do allow in, they are … respectable, and they listen to the rules and (are) very patient,” said Lafleur.
Lafleur said Clement once spent five hours waiting for ‘Raven’ to nurse her babes.

Since the Sleeping with the Wolves experience launched last winter, the wolves are enjoying the 10 acres of land to roam. He said five of the creatures were once involved in the film industry and their trainer recently paid them a visit.
“They all came out just ten, fifteen feet away from her and they wouldn't come to her, but they knew who she was,” said Lafleur.
“Then she started giving the commands and they all turned back and went back in the forest.”
Soon the pups will be doing the same.

Lafleur invites people to help name the new wolves on the resort’s Facebook page.
