SUDBURY -- A 17-year-old youth from Whitefish River First Nation is now facing four sexual assault charges stemming from incidents at a music festival held in 2019 in Little Current.

On Friday, the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police said four people complained about being assaulted at the festival. The youth is now facing three sexual assault charges, one charge of sexual assault with a weapon, one assault charge and one charge of assault with a weapon.

The investigation began at 2:10 a.m. on Aug. 11, 2019, when police received a report about a female with injuries at the Country Fest Fairgrounds, the release said.

"The identity of the young person charged in this investigation is protected under authority of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and as such will not be released," the release said.

The accused was released after being charged and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay.
