SUDBURY -- A 51-year-old woman had to be extracted from her vehicle Thursday morning near Timmins after her vehicle was struck by a 39-car freight train.

Timmins Police Service said in a news release that the extent of the woman's injuries is still undetermined. The collision took place at the Frazer Street railway crossing in Connaught around 11:40 a.m.

The woman was driving a Toyota Venza when it was struck by the freight train. She was extricated from the vehicle by Timmins Fire Department, working with Connaught Fire Hall volunteer firefighters, and taken to hospital.

"No persons on the freight train sustained any form of injury as a result of the collision," police said.

"All roadway arteries in Connaught have returned to normal allowing for the resumption of vehicular traffic."
