Snow squalls are coming off Northern Lake Huron today, affecting parts of Highways 6, 17 and 69, and will move out to the south this evening.

Accumulation of around 15 cm of snow is possible.

Visibility will be poor when strong winds from the southwest blow the freshly fallen snow.

Drivers should consider changing travel plans as the conditions will be hazardous.

Communities currently under snow squall warnings:

  • Chapleau – Gogama
  • Elliot Lake – Ranger Lake
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • Manitoulin – Blind River – Killarney
  • North Bay – West Nipissing
  • Sault Ste. Marie – Superior East

For the following areas snowfall will be much lighter, less than 5 cm:

  • Geraldton – Manitouwadge – Hornepayne
  • Kapuskasing – Hearst

Motorists in these areas should allow extra travel time, with drifting and occasional blowing snow.  Conditions should slowly improve later Wednesday afternoon.
