What makes an extreme sport athlete? The answer can be found in Science North's newest, locally produced exhibit unveiled Friday.

Beyond Human Limits is an interactive exhibit that takes visitors inside the minds and bodies of star athletes using science, creativity and innovation inherent in extreme sports.

"Here you can get immersed in the science. You're going to learn about the biology, the physics, psychology, neuroscience of what makes people do these things and you'll learn a lot about the athletes and I hope your learn a lot about yourself." said Psychologist Dr. Ken Carter.

Science North Chief Executive Officer Guy Labine says the opening of the exhibit couldn't come at a better time.

"First the Olympics, so we were able to witness amazing athletes, and in a way this exhibit also celebrates amazing athletes. And the time of the exhibit opening, before March break, is really important. It's a period of the year when we get a lot of out of town visitors, then the next period is going to be summer.” said Labine.

This is Science North's 12th traveling exhibit.

The science center received $1-million in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to help make it happen.

"A portion of that will actually go towards making sure that this exhibit will travel to North Bay to Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie, to all of these places." said Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault.

Beyond Human Limits will be on display in Sudbury until the beginning of September.

Then it will begin its five-year world tour.
