SUDBURY -- Environment Canada issued a Winter Weather Travel Advisory for several communities across northeastern Ontario on Sunday with snow and wind gusts up to 70km/h.

Communities listed in the weather advisory include:

  • Chapleau – Missinaibi Lake
  • Gogama – Foleyet
  • Nakina – Aroland – Padwa (Special weather statement)
  • Greater Sudbury and vicinity
  • Kapuskasing – Hearst
  • Kirkland Lake – Temiskaming Shores – Temagami
  • Lake Nipigon – Wabakimi
  • Nipigon – Marathon – Superior North ((Special weather statement)
  • North Bay – West Nipissing
  • Sault Ste. Marie – Superior East
  • Timmins – Cochrane
  • Wawa – White River -  Pukaska

Significantly reduced visibility due to snow and blowing snow from an Alberta Clipper moving across the northeast will affect travel conditions.

An Alberta Clipper, or Canadian Clipper, refers to a type of winter storm system that forms in Alberta or area that can precipitate sudden temperature drops and sharp winds.

Falling snow and strong wing gusts will continue into the evening with conditions improving near midnight.

Special weather statements issued by Environment Canada are the least urgent type of alert while weather advisories are issued for "specific weather events that are less severe, but could still significantly impact Canadians."
