The water leak that caused a state of emergency and the shutdown of water services in Hearst has been repaired as of 10 pm Wednesday evening.

Town officials released a statement saying that public works employees and the Ontario Clean Water Agency located the leak in a conduit leading to a fire hydrant near the intersection of Eighth Street and Edward Street.

While they were able to repair the leak, officials say that doing so caused considerable damage to Edward Street and are urging motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area whenever possible.

All municipal services will be reinstated at regular hours on Thursday, February 7.

A boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice.
