SUDBURY -- Officials with the Timmins & District Hospital Foundation say the John P. Larche Charity Classic was a huge success, with $63,634 raised to help buy much needed medical equipment.

“We had to change the course a bit for this fundraiser," said Barb McCormick, manager of donor relations at Timmins & District Hospital. “Players, also our donors, were able to participate, make a donation, and each donation became their shot online to move the ball along the course.”

McCormick said the money is going to a mammography unit that will cost around $550,000.

“Our unit is about 10 years old and we need to replace that one with a new device," she said. "The only way we can achieve that is by fundraising through the community.”

McCormick said the foundation was the first in northern Ontario to hold a virtual golf tournament.
