Vigil planned for drowning victims in Temiskaming Shores, Ont.
A vigil will be held this evening in New Liskeard for a father and daughter who drowned Dec. 29 at Pete's Dam Park in the community of Temiskaming Shores.
A GoFundMe has also been set up to support the family of the victims, Christian and Maya Bergeron.

"Our dear friend Christian, a devoted father, fiancé, and loving soul, tragically lost his life while trying to save his daughter, Maya," the fundraising page said.
"In an act of incredible love and courage, Christian attempted to rescue Maya from a dangerous situation at Pete’s Dam, a place that was close to their hearts. Tragically, both father and daughter were swept away by the current, leaving an indescribable loss for their family and everyone who knew them."
Christian is survived by his sons, Matthew and Philip, his step son Liam, and his daughter Ava, who is Maya's twin sister.
"His love for his children was immeasurable, and they were the center of his world," the GoFundMe page said.
"Christian was also a fiancé to his beloved partner Miranda Mariott, sharing a life filled with hope, love, and dreams of a bright future together."
It said Maya was a sixth grader "known for her laughter, curiosity, and her incredibly close bond with her twin sister, Ava."
"Maya’s lighthearted nature and joyful presence brought so much happiness to everyone she met. Her twin sister, Ava, will forever hold their special connection close to her heart."
In addition to donating to the online fundraiser, donations can also be made in person at either Ok Tire locations in New Liskeard, at Rock, Paper, Scissors or at Riverfront Chiropractic.

"Thank you for your kindness, support, and for helping us honor the memory of Christian and Maya," the page said.
The vigil will be held at 6 p.m. tonight at the Cenotaph in downtown New Liskeard.
"We will be lighting candles and celebrating the memory of Chris and Maya," said the Facebook post announcing the event.
Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Monday that they are conducting underwater recovery efforts in the area involving two missing persons.
