A dramatic rescue in downtown Sudbury played out on Monday after a man was spotted in Junction Creek.

Fire officials said upon arrival they found a man trapped on the edge of the fast-flowing creek, inside a tunnel and hanging on, so as not to be swept away.

The fire department's water rescue team entered the creek and got to the person, loading him onto a rescue board and brought him back to safety.

Greater Sudbury fire services said the man has been transported to hospital.
