A vehicle travelling on Highway 11 early in the morning last weekend rolled over in the ditch just west of Smooth Rock Falls.

Emergency responders were alerted to the collision, which took place around 4:30 a.m. May 11.

“Police arrived on scene and observed the vehicle on its roof, with debris surrounding the vehicle, including empty liquor containers,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

“The driver was transported via ambulance to a local hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening and non-life altering in nature.”

Speaking with the driver en route to hospital led police to determined the suspect had been drinking, something confirmed by testing in the hospital.

The 26-year-old from Kapuskasing is charged with two offences related to impaired driving. They were released with a court date of June 4 in Cochrane.

The accused’s driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
