SUDBURY -- Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened after a bizarre incident Friday morning.

Two vehicles were stolen, the first from Cambrian Heights Drive.

According to the Greater Sudbury Police Services Twitter feed, the first call of a stolen car came in around 7 a.m. after someone discovered their car had been stolen from their driveway.

According to officers, the keys had been left in the running vehicle. Sergeant Robin Marcotte says the owner hopped into their second vehicle to look for the car and found it lodged on a snowbank near the Children’s Aid Society on Lasalle Blvd.

“A scuffle had ensued at which point the suspect was able to overcome the owners and then stole their second one (vehicle), from there the suspect fled on Lasalle Blvd where they then collided with a second snow bank,” said Marcotte.

This  crash happened near Smith’s Food Market at Arthur Street. A tow truck had to be called to tow the vehicles away.

Investigators used a K-9 team at the second scene to try and track the suspect down, but didn’t have any luck.

The owners of the vehicles had to be treated for minor injuries.

“Two of the important messages that we want to get across as a result of this incident is one if you’re in immediate risk or danger or if you’re involved in a crime in progress call 9-1-1 and the second one is do not leave the vehicle running and unattended at any time as a result of a situation similar to this one,” Marcotte added.

Police say the suspect is still at large.
