Suspect driving stolen truck in Victoria fled on three wheels: police

Police in Victoria are appealing for witnesses and video in an investigation into an incident in which a suspect driving a stolen vehicle fled police “on three wheels.”

On Christmas Eve around 2:30 p.m., the owner of a stolen pickup truck called police to report that he’d seen someone driving his vehicle downtown near the intersection of Store and Herald streets, the Victoria Police Department said in a news release.

Police spotted the vehicle running a red light, and did not immediately pursue the driver. Soon after, the vehicle was seen “stationary” at the intersection of Spruce and Nanaimo streets.

“(Police) used a manoeuvre to stop the vehicle from leaving. This disabled the police car and removed a tire from the stolen vehicle, which then fled the scene on three wheels,” a social media post from VicPD the day after the incident said.

The truck was later found abandoned and no arrests have been made.

Authorities describe the incident as “highly visible,” noting that photos and video of the three-wheeled pickup were widely circulated online. Anyone who has information or video who has not contacted police is urged to call 250-995-7654 and reference file number 24-47595.
