Unsafe commercial vehicle stopped by police near Sudbury OPP station
A Sudbury commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver and their employer are facing multiple charges after provincial police stopped near the Sudbury OPP station on Thursday.
Members of the Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police detachment stopped the CMV at about 7:15 p.m. on July 25.
“(Police) conducted an inspection with a CMV, which resulted with, two charges on a 27-year-old driver from Sudbury, with an additional four(sic) charges on the operator,” said the OPP in a social media post.
“The trailer was placed out of service.”
In an email to CTV News, OPP Const. Rob Lewis said the operator actually is facing five charges, not four as first released.

As a result of the inspection, the driver was charged with driving a CMV with a major defect in it or a drawn vehicle and improper brakes on a CMV trailer. The operator was charged with operating a CMV with no valid CVOR certificate, operating an overweight vehicle in violation of the permit, failing to ensure the daily inspection is conducted properly, failing to supply a driver with a daily inspection schedule and failing to ensure performance standards are met.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
“The OPP acknowledges and commends the many CMV drivers who continue to drive safe on Ontario roads,” said police.
“The OPP will continue to work together with CMV drivers to reduce the number of CMV-related collisions which may result in deaths or injuries on OPP-patrolled roads.”
