SUDBURY -- Ontario Provincial Police have charged six people in South River, near Sundridge and south of North Bay, for holding an illegal gathering.

Police were called May 1 at 12:20 a.m. to a residence on Rose Anna Drive, in Machar Township.

"Further investigation revealed that there were people in contravention of the recently implemented stay-at-home order," police said in a news release Friday.

The six people are now charged with failing to comply with the Reopening Ontario Act.

"The OPP is doing its part to support the Ontario government's Health Emergency Declaration to limit the transmission of COVID 19," police said. "It's important that the public understands that there are consequences for individuals who defy the (Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act) and ROA orders that are in place."
