Ukrainians in North Bay come together to continue to raise awareness

Share

About a dozen Ukrainian people sang a popular Ukrainian song at a local grocery store in North Bay Saturday to continue the conversation and to raise awareness about what's happening overseas.

"We are here so that people will pay more attention to what's going on in Ukraine," said Dmytro Korotkykh, one of those participating in the event.

"Today lots of missiles hit the city I was born in and a lot of people died. They hit residential multi-level buildings almost in the centre of the city," he added.

Those at the event said they know about 15 Ukrainian families have settled in North Bay and added the city has been a great place to call home.

Event organizers told CTV News they hope that more groups of Ukrainian people will share their culture across Canada to continue to raise awareness.

"Today is to get memory about Ukraine, about what is happening in Ukraine," said Andrii Bieliaiev, the organizer of the event.

"The main goal is for people to think about what is now in Ukraine and how brave Ukrainians are."
