Two Quebecers used fake IDs to try to access money in northern Ontario, police say
Two people from Quebec were caught trying to use fake IDs last week to access money from two northern Ontario businesses, Ontario Provincial Police say.
The first incident happened around 4 p.m. Dec. 12 at a business in Chapleau.
"The couple had fled the scene prior to police arrival," OPP said.
"The next day, on December 13, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the OPP located the suspects attempting to use false ID again at another business in the Town of Wawa."
When the couple was searched the 41-year-old woman from Lac Superior was found with 21 fake IDs and the 48-year-old Laval man was found with 25.
They are both charged with identity theft for each of the fake IDs found on them.
The two suspects are also charged with possession of a forged document with intent and two counts each of identity fraud.
Both accused appeared in bail court in Sudbury on Dec. 14.
No word on whether they were released or held in custody.
