Two northerners win big lottery prizes
Two people from northern Ontario are richer by a few hundred thousand dollars after winning two recent lottery prizes.
Colleen Gill of Kirkland Lake is celebrating after winning $250,000 in the Instant Crossword Deluxe.
"I decided to pick up some tickets for Family Day,” Gill said in a news release Wednesday from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.
"I played my ticket after our family dinner when everyone went home. I saw all these words matching and I was so excited. I said to my husband, 'I think I won!'"
Gill said she was “shaking” when she was claiming the ticket.
"My husband and I celebrated together," she said.
"We will split this win between myself, my husband and my adult children. It feels good to give them a gift like this. I plan to treat myself to a sunny beach destination to relax.”
The winning ticket was purchased at A-One Variety on Government Road in Kirkland Lake.
In Sault Ste. Marie, meanwhile, Gale Doan won $100,000 when she matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in the exact order in the Oct. 14, 2023 Lotto 6/49 draw.
The winning ticket was purchased at Wellington Square Drug Mart on Trunk Road in Sault Ste. Marie.
