Two new wildfires reported in northern Ont. Wednesday
Two new wildland fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region by early evening on Wednesday.
Sudbury 19 is a 0.1-hectare fire located on the east side of Matagamasi Lake at McCarthy Bay. This fire is being held.
Cochrane 30 is located approximately three kilometres east of the Aylen River and 11 kilometres west of the Quebec border. This fire is 0.1-hectares in size and is not under control.
As of Wednesday evening, there were 23 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. Of these, one is under control, one is being held, two are not under control and 19 are being observed.
Fire of note is Kirkland Lake 5 is located about five kilometres north of Stull Lake, five kilometres southeast of McKee Lake, and about 80 kilometres west of Latchford.
“The fire is 889 hectares in size and is not under control at the time of this update,” Ontario Forest Fires said in its daily update.

“Aerial fire suppression is being utilized today with helicopters and 2 CL415 waterbombers. An updated fire perimeter can be consulted on the province’s interactive map.”
The fire hazard is low to moderate in the southern portion of the region and moderate to high across most of the rest of the Northeast Region except for areas over Elliott Lake, Massey, Webbwood, Onaping Lake and Capreol that have an extreme fire hazard.
In the far north a high to extreme fire hazard exists along the Hudson Bay coast.
