SUDBURY -- A man and a woman face drug charges as a result of a combined investigation by the North Bay Police Service street crime unit and the Ontario Provincial Police organized crime enforcement bureau.
The pair were arrested by the OPP after a traffic stop shortly after 10 p.m. May 25 on Highway 11 just south of North Bay.
A search of the pair and the vehicle uncovered 264.3 grams of what police believe is cocaine and $4,553 in Canadian currency.
"The investigation continued with a search warrant being conducted on an addition vehicle and a residence located on Lakeshore Drive in North Bay," police said in a news release Wednesday.
"This resulted in the seizure of packaging material, digital scales, cutting agents and about five grams of what appears to be cocaine."
The combined street value of the drugs and substances seized, along with the Canadian currency, totaled about $31,493, the release said.
Police also seized a 2020 black Audi car as offence-related property.
A 38-year-old man from Powassan is charged with trafficking, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failing to comply with a release order.
A 37-year-old woman from North Bay is also charged with trafficking and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The man remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse. The woman was released and will appear in the North Bay Courthouse on July 14 to answer to the charges.
