An early morning crash on Highway 69 south of Sudbury has claimed the life of one person. 

Ontario Provincial Police say one person is dead and one is in hospital.  

They say it happened around 4 am, south of Crooked Lake Road, near Alban.  

The crash closed the highway for 5 hours.

 

Greater Sudbury Police are also investigating a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle which has left one person dead.

Police say the crash happened late Monday morning in the Lively area and closed down Municipal Road 55 in both directions.

Traffic coming from Whitefish/Panache towards Lively is being rerouted to Santala Road to Niemi Road, to Main Street.

Motorists looking to head into Sudbury can use MR55 heading west towards Highway 17 bypass.

*Update:

Sudbury police confirm the motocyclist was pronounced deceased on scene.

Update 2:

Police say the motocyclist was a 70-year-old man from Greater Sudbury, but will not release the name in order to respect the family's wishes.

As of 3:20 pm Monday Sudbury Police say:

"MR55 remains closed between Agnes St and Santala Rd. If you're coming from Sudbury & need to access Naughton beyond Agnes St, Whitefish or Panache you can take Old Soo Rd to Santala back onto MR55 to head West or you're encouraged to take Hwy 17 bypass to come in the back route."
