Two Timmins residents are facing charges in connection with an alleged failed bank robbery attempt that took place early Wednesday morning.

Timmins police say that a 44-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman attempted to extract funds from a local bank’s overnight deposit receptacle using a “primitive device” involving a hook and fishing line.

They were arrested at the scene after triggering the bank’s alarm system and taken into police custody.

Both individuals have been charged with theft under $5,000, while the female suspect was also charged with fail to comply with probation order.

The accused remain in police custody awaiting bail hearings scheduled for later Wednesday.
