Tutti Frutti restaurants closing in Sudbury later this month
Sudbury, which was home to the first Tutti Frutti franchise location outside of Quebec in 2008, is losing both its franchises as one owner retires and the other takes a new direction.
Denise Boyer is retiring after running the Tutti Frutti franchise in the South End of Sudbury since 2011.
“The city of Sudbury has just been wonderful but … for me, I need to relax,” Boyer said.
“It’s just too much. My health has been deteriorating I need to take a step back … As much as I enjoy the restaurant as much as I enjoy my customers, I need to look after myself.”
She said the COVID-19 pandemic presented some major challenges in the restaurant industry that played into her decision to close the restaurant.
“The pandemic has been very difficult,” Boyer said.
“It’s been very difficult on everybody but the restaurant industry really took a kick. It’s been hard trying to gather staff, getting staff to stay. I have been very fortunate I have a team of people working for me that are the greatest. I think they are the best in Sudbury.”
She said soaring food costs and supply chain issues were also factors in her decision to close.
“Pre-pandemic I used to pay somewhere around 32 to 34 dollars for a case of tomatoes I have paid up to $80 for a case of tomatoes. The produce price has been through the roof,” said Boyer.
Boyer said closing is bittersweet and she will miss her staff and customers.
“Thank you Sudbury. Thank you very much for supporting me thank you for being here and I am really happy that you enjoyed eating here for the last 11 years.”
