Truck set on fire by the train tracks leads to arson charge for Sault resident

A 36-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with arson following an incident in the early morning hours of Feb. 7.

Police responded at 2:40 a.m. to a report of a fire on Portage Lane.

“Upon arrival, officers saw a truck on fire beside the train tracks, which was subsequently extinguished by Fire Services,” Sault police said in a news release Wednesday.

“An investigation found the accused was at the scene of, and involved in, the arson. Detectives obtained a warrant for their arrest.”

The suspect was arrested at a residence on Albert Street West and charged with arson causing damage to property and failing to comply with an undertaking.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
