SAULT STE. MARI -- A new hockey exhibit, on loan from the national history museum, is coming to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie.

It showcases the history of the sport and the local moments that made fans fall in love with the game.

Over the next two months, part of the bushplane museum will be dedicated to the history of one of the nation's most-beloved sports.

"The travelling exhibit comes to us from the Canadian Museum of History. It’s entitled, Hockey, it’s about Canada’s fascination and Canada’s obsession with the sport of hockey," said Brian Bubinas, the curator of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.

While the exhibit is focused on the history of the game and the people who made it popular, Bubinas wanted to add a local touch to it. So, he put a call out to all local memorabilia collectors.

"We’ve definitely had some content provided to us from the city museum, largely from the Greyhounds, and then some private collectors and what not," said Bubinas.

The grand opening for the exhibit is Feb. 8, which coincides with Hockey Day in Canada. So, the Bushplane Heritage Centre is planning on hosting a big party with the Soo Greyhounds game being aired in the museum.
