SAULT STE. MARIE -- Several organizations in Sault Ste. Marie are coming together to promote the city's music industry.

It's an initiative called Music City Sault Ste. Marie and it will be shining a spotlight on the city's musical talent, venues, and production facilities in order to build more economic opportunity in the art form locally.

A 'Music City' is defined as a community of any size with a vibrant music economy. Music cities are home to a broad range of professionals who support art entrepreneurs in their career development. They also have spaces for education, rehearsal, recording, and performance, and offer an overall environment that enables artists to develop their craft.

An event called 'The Mastering of a Music City - Sault Ste. Marie' is happening Thursday afternoon and will feature a panel of guests and local stakeholders.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Carole Pope, singer and songwriter,
  • Chris Campbell, director of Culture and Entertainment Tourism with Tourism London
  • David MacLachlan, executive director of Destination Northern Ontario.

More details to come.
