Sudbury -

A day on a northern Ontario lake turned deadly after a tragic water sports accident involving an Orillia area man.

Search and rescue crews found the body of 35-year-old Douglas Coppin of Severn Township, who went missing after the water tube he was riding flipped on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to Lake Temagami shortly after 2:30 p.m. on July 14 to search for the man who didn't resurface after being ejected from the tube being pulled by a boat. The Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit was brought in on Thursday.

An investigation is continuing under the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

"The OPP reminds all operators and passengers to carry an approved lifesaving device in your vessel or pleasure craft for each person on board. Find one that fits properly and wear it every time you go out on a vessel or pleasure craft," police said in a news release Friday morning.
