North Bay Police are concerned with the number of non-emergency 9-1-1 calls that are being made by residents.

At this morning’s (March 12/19) police board meeting, Deputy Chief Tod Scott brought up the issue.

He says in January, police reported more than three-hundred and twenty calls were registered.

Only a few dozen of those calls were actually serious in nature.

Police say pranksters who call 9-1-1 will get a visit from an officer. Tod wants to stress when considering dialing 9-1-1, people must reflect on two simple messages.

Is this an emergency, or is someone’s life at risk?

“There are some instances where people will call for traffic and people would like to know whether or not the roads are closed or severe weather has closed the highway somewhere else and they’ll call

9-1-1,” Said Scott Tod of North Bay Police

Tod says there are other options people can use to contact authorities including the office line or crime stoppers.
