SUDBURY -- The intersection is now open, police confirmed Friday

The Timmins Police Service is investigating a pedestrian-related collision that took place just before noon Friday.

Police said the collision occurred at the intersection of Preston Street and Wilson Avenue in Timmins when the operator of a scooter was struck as he was proceeding north on Preston, making use of the pedestrian crosswalk.

"The driver of a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck was proceeding westbound through the intersection and struck the scooter before coming to rest just west of the intersection," police said in a news release.

The operator of the scooter was transported to Timmins and District Hospital for medical treatment for injuries sustained in the collision. It is not yet known how badly he was hurt.

The intersection remains closed to allow for the police's technical traffic collision investigators to complete their examination of the scene to determine the cause of the collision.

Traffic delays are expected to persist in this area for the next few hours.
