TIMMINS – November is National Novel Writing Month and to celebrate it, the Timmins Public Library hosted a local authors showcase.

Librarians in Timmins say there is still a spot in our digital world for books.

"All we have to do is look at our circulation statistics and there is still this love for having a physical book and interestingly enough, it's also even in our youngest generation. They'd rather have a physical book right in their hands," said Karina Douglas-Takayesu, Librarian.

Avid reader Marc Leblanc says a physical book gives him "a peace of mind. It takes me away from everything and I learn a lot."

The showcase featured seven writers, including Comic Book Writer Davis Dewburry, Poet Brenda-Lee Ranta and Mining History Researcher and Writer Kevin Vincent. Francophone writers were also in attendance.

The panel was organized by Christine Fortin. She says it's difficult to get the names of French authors and to connect with them, but says many exist throughout the region.

Also in attendance was Susan Reimer who debuted her first novel. She says the first copy arrived just in time for the event.

"It's about a 15-year-old growing up in a small town and basically it's about faith, friendship and family," she explained.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to meet the authors and learn more about the creative process.
