Timmins Public Library celebrates 100th anniversary with new mural

In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Timmins Public Library welcomes patrons to come check out its new mural when they borrow books.

An unveiling ceremony took place Nov. 13 and it will remain above the library’s entranceway for years to come.

The piece was created by members of the Porcupine Art Club. One of the artists said the theme of the piece is to consider the library being the heart of the community.

"I'm really hoping that this is going to be something that people are going to come in and be like, wow, just like when they see the interior of our library, they're like, 'Wow, this is nice,'" said Karina Douglas-Takayesu, who is also an employee at the Timmins Public Library.

The Timmins Public Library has worked out of several buildings throughout its history, but its current location on Second Avenue opened in 2005.
