SUDBURY -- The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to help investigate a Timmins fire that has displaced several people Wednesday.

Timmins police say the blaze happened early Wednesday morning at a multi-unit dwelling house on Elm Street South.

CTV previously reported on complaints from nearby residents about the building, calling for it to be torn down due to its state of disrepair.

The building’s owner, Guy Lahaie, wasn’t immediately available to comment about the blaze but expressed interest in giving his thoughts on the incident.

Based on preliminary findings, the Criminal Investigation Division has enlisted the assistance of the local Forensic Identification Unit and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office to help determine the origin of the fire.

While the exact number of occupants affected by the fire is still being determined, Timmins police say it is believed up to six people have been temporarily displaced.

Anyone with relevant information about this occurrence is asked to call the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or by anonymous means of www.p3tips.com
