SUDBURY -- The Timmins Police Service say a local man sustained serious injuries in an altercation at a Birch Street South residence Wednesday evening.

A 31-year-old resident of Timmins was injured in the altercation when he was stabbed in the head and leg.

"The man was located by a Timmins Police Service officer, who was patrolling the downtown core of Timmins late yesterday evening," police said in a news release Thursday.

"The injured man was brought to Timmins and District Hospital by ambulance where he received medical treatment for his injuries."
