An argument between tenants at an apartment building in the east end of Timmins could have ended up far worse.

Officials say fire and police crews were called to 76 Golden Avenue in South Porcupine early Friday morning.

Police say one of the tenants living in the building is alleged to have set a bag of clothes on fire with the use of an accelerant in the building’s hallway.

They say another tenant noticed the fire and extinguished it.

“Obviously, there’s a cause for concern. Given the fact that it was early in the morning, a number of the occupants might not have been awake at the time. There’s any number of factors here that cause great concern for the Timmins Police Service.  A thorough investigation has been completed by our officers.” said Marc Depatie, of TPS.

Police say they’ve charged a 49-year-old South Porcupine man with arson with disregard for human life.
