Timmins is gearing up for its annual mining expo next month.

Affectionately known as The Big Show, it's one of the largest events of its kind in the country.

This year's event promises over 400 vendors, and it will play host to high school students from across the region. They will be given the chance to experience the mining industry up close, as organizers try to inspire an interest in the industry.

Julie Joncas is the Executive Director of the Far Northeast Training Board.

"It's an opportunity, as I said, to expose them. We definitely have shortages of workers, so it's also, I guess, somewhat of an incentive for them to look at what's out there and maybe consider staying or coming back to the north, to kind of give it that spin as well." said Joncas.

The Far Northeast Training Board will be releasing the findings of a study on industry employment shortages when the event opens June 6th
