After the fire at the Good Samaritan Inn Homeless Shelter in Timmins, many in the community have reached out to help in any way they can.

The owners of Siva's Family Restaurant posted a message on Facebook that promised to donate 50 cents to the shelter for every like or share.

Nearly 5,000 people did so, and the restaurant's owner, Siva Mylvaganam, presented a cheque to the Good Samaritan Inn for $3,000, rounding the amount up.

He says he was inspired because some of his own staff previously used the shelter.

“They needed the help and they helped them out. They come back and work for me. They work harder and they also appreciate how much help they get from the Good Samaritan Inn. So, I realize that is true, they need the help and they are helping other people. I want to help them.” said Mylvaganam.

The Good Samaritan Inn also received a cheque for $50,000 Tuesday from the Home Depot Foundation of Canada.
