Timmins celebrates Golden Manor milestone
The City of Timmins is celebrating a milestone on the redevelopment of the Golden Manor long-term care home.
A beam-topping ceremony, a construction tradition, was held Thursday to celebrate the completion of the structural phase of the project, when the final beam of the main structure is put in place.

Mayor Michelle Boileau was joined by a few dozen guests who gathered on the future site of the new Golden Manor long-term care home.
They included Timmins MPP and Minister of Mines George Pirie; EllisDon construction manager Brad Lacroix; project staff from the City of Timmins and the Golden Manor; and, members of the construction team.
Guests signed the structural beam before it was hoisted by a crane and fit into place.
"The beam-topping ceremony not only represents a milestone in construction but acknowledges the effort and hard work of the engineering and construction teams,” Boileau was quoted as saying in a news release.
"They are building the future home of the Golden Manor. This is a generational project for the community. We need to ensure that accessible and effective long-term care is available to meet the needs of older adults and individuals who require assisted care."

Phase 2 of Golden Manor redevelopment continues with contractors addressing civil works around the new build and connecting all utilities.
On the building structure itself, contractors are now focused on the building envelope – closing the building off, which includes adding exterior walls, windows, insulation, and roofing. Interior mechanical work is also starting.
Golden Manor management and staff are also moving into the next phase of operational readiness and planning for the future move and transition to the new building.
