School boards across the province have been hard at work trying to determine what impact recent cuts made by the Ford government to education will have on their own operations.

Officials from the District School Board Ontario North East say they are expecting a budget reduction of $4-million. Most of that will be felt in secondary staffing, as class sizes are expected to increase from 22 students to 28, as well as changes in secondary foundation grants and changes to funding of early childhood educators.

“We are anticipating a reduction and so we're looking at our board office departments. We're looking at school budgets. Superintendents and myself, we're looking at our own budgets. We know we're going to have to make reductions and we're trying to figure out how to make those reductions that will have the least direct impact on our students.” said Lesleigh Dye, Director of Education for DSBONE.

School board officials say that they are also anticipating further cuts in the form of grants for students needs to be announced later in the month.
