Three young offenders in the Sault charged with vicious assault

Three young people in Sault Ste. Marie have been charged with chasing down a victim and kicking and punching them while they were on the ground.

The attack left the victim with serious injuries, Sault police said in a news release Friday. Two of the suspects are age 15, while the third, who is 16, was already under release conditions.

The assault took place Nov. 6. Emergency 911 operators received the call after the attack took place.

"An investigation revealed one of the accused attempted to initiate a fight with the victim and, when the victim ran away, the three accused chased them and began punching and kicking them repeatedly while they were on the ground," police said in a news release Friday.

 

"The victim sustained serious physical injuries. Officers located and arrested all three accused."

The 15-year-olds were charged with assault causing bodily harm and released on an undertaking with court dates of Dec. 24 and Jan. 21 respectively.

The 16-year-old was charged with assault causing bodily harm and failure to comply with an undertaking and was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
