Three charged in Timmins shooting, including one youth
Timmins police say three people, including one youth, have been charged in connection with a shooting that happened in the city’s north end early Wednesday morning.
"Two persons located in the area were detained shortly after police arrival," Timmins police said in an update Thursday.
Police seized fentanyl and cocaine along with two handguns while executing two search warrants in connection with the shooting.
"There's a large quantity of fentanyl and cocaine,” Staff Sgt. Tim Chalmers told CTV News in an interview.
“But again, the investigation is still going on and I don't have the exact numbers or anything for you right now."
A young man under the age of 18 is facing 11 charges after a man was shot in the area of Sixth Street and Cedar Street North.
"He is in custody and facing weapons offences and drug offence charges," Chalmers said.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A 31-year-old man of no fixed address also faces 11 drug and firearms charges in connection to the searches and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
A third man, a 20-year-old from Etobicoke, was arrested on an outstanding warrant during the investigation.
He was charged in November 2023 with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm and other weapons charges and is also being held pending a bail hearing.
It is unclear if he is also being charged in connection to Wednesday's shooting.
Chalmers said the use of firearms in crimes is on the rise everywhere and Timmins is no different.
"We … continue to gather information and act on any reports of to keep the firearms from being brought in or used in their city," he said.
The victim and the accused in Wednesday's shooting know each other, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
