NORTH BAY -- Months without revenue have taken a toll on performing arts centres and performing artists alike.

In an effort to generate revenue, and share it with local musicians, the Capitol Centre in North Bay is introducing a new Shared -Benefit Summer Concert series on Facebook.

“We have worked hard to showcase local musicians in our online concerts since the shutdown began," said the Capitol Centre's Programming & Events Director Dan Misturada.

"But, we need to start generating revenue and we know our local musicians want to generate income. So, we thought it best to move forward together in a partnership that is designed to benefit both.”

The North Bay performing arts theatre will provide the venue and tech support for pre-recording concerts for online presentation, and the artists will provide the music.

Together, the facility and artists will share the donation support which comes from that concert.

When the Capitol Centre closed its doors in March, staff shifted their focus from live performances to online entertainment in order to keep people engaged with music, theatre and art.

A mix of local, national and international entertainment has been showcased as part of the Capitol Centre’s monthly virtual-event calendars on Facebook.

The Capitol Centre is included in Phase 3 of the province’s re-opening plan, which means normal operations are still a ways off yet.

As a result, the new 2020-2021 programming season will likely be introduced this fall with performances taking place in the winter and next spring.

“Currently because of government relief efforts and grants, we have been able to manage, but not for much longer," said Capitol Centre's Executive Director Katina Connolly.

“Revenue flow and donations are becoming very important so we are appealing to our online audience to make donations to support both the Capitol Centre and our local musicians during our Shared-Benefit Summer Concert Series.”

Performers interested in being part of the Shared-Benefit Summer Concert Series are asked to send a short bio and live performance clip to dmisturada@capitolcentre.org.
