SUDBURY -- The union representing employees at Canada Revenue Agency is calling the new tentative deal with the government a victory for the workers who have gone above and beyond to support Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public Service Alliance of Canada said the deal provides fair wages, no concessions, improved working conditions and settlement to compensate for damages caused by the Phoenix broken pay system, in a news release.

The bargaining team successfully secured fair wage increases and wage adjustment averaging at 2.07 per cent per year.

Term employees will no longer have to wait five years for permanency and shall now be made permanent after three years of employment with the CRA.

The union says further details will follow soon.

Members of the bargaining team are unanimously recommending ratification of the tentative agreement.

There's no word on when the contract ratification vote will be held.
